Embark on an unforgettable tea house trek along the southern face of Annapurna Base Camp with the renowned Annapurna Sanctuary Trek. This journey, commencing in Pokhara, unveils the miraculous Modi Khola gorge, leading you to a panorama of vast mountains. The trail takes you through enchanting bamboo and rhododendron forests, culminating in an awe-inspiring view of the Annapurna range. Traverse a path sandwiched between the majestic Machhapuchhare and Hiunchuli, creating an unforgettable trekking experience.
Reaching a maximum altitude of 4170m, the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek/Base Camp trek is a captivating hike into the natural amphitheatre formed by the stunning peaks of Annapurna 1, Glacier Dome, Gangapurna, Fang, and the fishtail peak of Machhapuchhare. While there’s a single entrance to the sanctuary, our premier Annapurna Sanctuary Trek follows locally known, lesser-used approaches and exit routes.
The vast amphitheater is encircled by Himalayan peaks, including the iconic ‘fishtail’ spire of Machapuchare, Gangapurna, Annapurna 1, the unclimbed Fang, and Annapurna South. The trek follows the Modi Khola Valley through oak, rhododendron, and bamboo forests, passing local Gurung villages to reach a world of soaring peaks. The journey begins with a short drive from Pokhara to Nayapul, leading to the village of Birethanti by the Modi River.
Walking through oak forests and crossing side valleys, we climb a stone ‘staircase’ to the Gurung village of Chomrong. Continuing past the Hinku cave, we reach the ‘gate’ into the Sanctuary – a pass between the spectacular peaks of Hiunchuli and Machapuchare. The glaciated and snow-covered peaks form a breathtaking barrier, with dazzling views awaiting as we trek up through the last settlements to Machhapuchhare Base Camp (3729m). Here, we are rewarded with superb views of the ‘Fishtail’ mountain. The trek also includes a visit to the Annapurna South Base Camp.
Immerse yourself in the natural beauty and grandeur of the Annapurna Sanctuary, where each step is a journey into the heart of the Himalayas.
